The Poor House Bistro is San Jose's New Orleans Joint. A "Joint" in the south is a place where people would come to enjoy food, drink, and music. The Poor House brings that site, sound, and taste of New Orleans to the San Jose Downtown area.

The menu offers the greatest hits of New Orleans Dining.
These dishes include: Blackened Chicken Wings, Gumbo, Cajun Popcorn Salad, Crawfish Pasta, BBQ Shrimp, Red Beans & Rice, Corn Muffins, Jambalaya and Muffaletta Sandwiches. Hot Po Boy's include Catfish, Oyster, Shrimp, Pork, Beef, and Chicken. Desserts include Bread Pudding, Beignets, and Sweet Potato Fries.

The menu also offers a variety of food that will appeal to a wide market. This includes: Fresh cut French Fries and Charbroiled Angus Beef, Turkey, and Boca (Vegetarian) Burgers. Also from the grill includes Chicken and a variety of Sausage sandwiches. Salads are prepared daily. Kids menu includes Corndogs, Chicken Tenders, and Grilled Cheese with Fries.

The Bistro is located one block south of the HP Pavilion across from the Diridon Train Station. The Poor House has received 3 out of 4 stars in the Mercury News and voted Best Live Music in the Silicon Valley by the Mercury News readers.
